About the Union
The China Union of Life Science Societies(hereafter referred to as “The Union”) is the first consortium of societies within the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), a non-corporate entity which was jointly founded by 11 national societies. The inaugural meeting marking the official establishment of The Union took place in Beijing on October 15, 2015.
The establishment of The Union represents a major move towards the reform of scientific and technological practice in China and the conduct of related non-governmental organizations (NGOs). It will serve to align Chinese science with global, modern trends in science and technology. China is destined to equal and even surpass the standards and accomplishments of the developed countries in the life sciences due to its ability to foster communication, collaboration, and integration across disciplines, which is critical in this field of study.
The Union will focus on creating a long-term mechanism to foster effective interaction, efficient collaboration, and resource sharing among different disciplines and scientific personnel. It forms a stable system through which scientists may cooperate on key projects to foster development and reform. The grand platform provided by The Union will empower scientists to drive research and technological innovation, will facilitate the member organizations in accomplishing their missions, and will promote information exchange and resource sharing among all member societies, thus creating a better environment for innovation.
The Union shall encourage cross disciplinary communication, thus promoting the integration of different disciplines. The Union will promote resource sharing and will foster cooperativeefforts in innovation. The Union shall serve to provide member scientists and researchers a voice on the international stage through the organization of high profile meetings, creating prestigious awards, and sponsoring major programs Currently, The Union consists of 22 national member societies, including the Zoological Society of China, the Botanical Society of China,the Entomological Society of China, the Chinese Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Chinese Society for Cell Biology, the Biophysical Society of China, the Genetics Society of China, the Chinese Society of Biotechnology, Chinese Association of Integraive Medicine, the Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences, the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, the Chinese Society for Immunology, the Chinese Society for Microbiology, the Chinese Society for Plant Biology, the Chinese Neuroscience Society, the Chinese Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences, the Chinese Nutrition Society, Chinese Pharmacological Society, Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, the Chinese Society for Cognitive Science, the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, and the Chinese Society for Anatomical Sciences.
